Friday Fives | Fiction Books with LGBTQ+ Main Character

I started Friday Fives back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to Friday Fives instead to have more room for topics.

While this is the last Friday Fives topic in June, please remember that LGBTQ+ people live in the world all year long. We all need support, love, and most importantly human rights like everyone else. For this post, I’m going to try to focus on less popular/known queer books.

This book is so great! It’s an adorable queer romance that also delves into a lot of gender issues when Mara decides to join the football team and four other girls follow her lead. Definitely recommend!

This book absolutely broke my heart, and I just want to wrap Hazel in a hug! This book needs more love. It definitely delves into the issue of anxiety with young children, as Hazel is nervous about starting a new school, especially without her best friend, and one of her mom’s is pregnant after suffering from a miscarriage. Hazel has a lot going on and she is nervous about it all, as you can’t exactly predict all the outcomes.

Okay, this one is probably a bit more known than the other two, but it’s not usually brought up in lists of LGBTQ+ recommendations. I remember someone telling me or reading it somewhere that this was like Dickens with lesbians, and I do have to say that is an accurate description. There’s definitely twists and turns and romance and it’s just so delicious!

This one may also be known, but I’m just so excited to read it. It’s literally on my bar cart right now, and I’m hoping to read it in the next couple of days. A queer romance book with magic brownies that make everyone break up.

I enjoyed Upright Women Wanted by Gailey, so I’m looking forward to this one. Six teens who have to control their magic and it doesn’t help when you’re in love with your best friend.

Happy Reading Darlings!
