No More Star Ratings

So, in the past year there have been some instances of rating books and people being upset by how I rate the books. I’ve always been of the opinion that people should read what they want and like the genres and tropes that they like. There is no judgment on the person themselves for what they read or like. If I have ever come off as judgmental or mean about it, then I apologize. I never meant for it to come off as insulting or judgmental.

Going into the new year, I am deciding no longer to rate books with stars (or any other number/symbol system). I’ll keep it to whether I like the book or not and what areas are the strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the day, all of these reviews will be my own personal opinion. I do not receive any monetary payments for these reviews, and my reviews and blog are a hobby.

I love talking, discussing, and blogging about books and finding other books to read. I never go out of of the hate a book just because. I genuinely want to love all the books I read and sometimes my background (experience, education, what I’ve read before, etc.) doesn’t agree with me. It can also be that I read the book at the wrong time or have read too many of a similar genre/trope that I was overloaded by too much of one thing and should’ve taken a break.

I know I keep saying this, but none of this is meant to insult any readers or authors. If you think I do, please let me know, and I will look into it and either explain or refine my review.
