Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly topic hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provides a topic, and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here. This week’s topic is bookish wishes, instead of doing that, I want to bring attention to some Go Fund Me campaigns from Palestinians that could use your help. Donations are not the only way you can help, sharing a campaign increases the chances of their goal being met. I want to make it clear that I’m posting this to bring awareness and help to these people, not to shame anyone.

Please Help My Family to Evacuate Gaza: Amer Abdelmalek is a Palestinian Canadian currently living in Edmonton, Alberta who is raising money to move his brother and his family to Canada. His brother and sister-in-law have six kids, including a new born that was born during the war. All of the expenses must be paid out of pocket. Every dollar raised through this campaign will be used to cover a range of essential expenses, including but not limited to passports, flights, establishment costs, accommodations, and much more. With each passing day, the situation becomes more perilous. They’ve made the difficult decision to seek refuge outside of Gaza for the safety and well-being of their family.

Support Abed’s Medical Recovery & Family Relief: Abdelrahman Alkhout, a Palestinian photojournalist from Gaza is seeking donations and support for medical costs. He’s suffering from injuries caused by an explosive gunshot to my leg during his journalistic coverage at the beginning of the war back in November. The donations aim to cover medical care expenses as his medical conditions require shrapnel removal and treatment in Turkey due to the current collapse of the healthcare system in Gaza. Additionally, his family is still in Gaza facing difficult humanitarian conditions due to the destruction of their homes and lack of food and Northern Gaza. Your donations will contribute to improving his life and his family’s life. The funds will be allocated to enable his family members to leave Gaza through Rafah border crossing. The cost per individual for passage is $7,000, a necessary amount to facilitate passage to Egypt.

PAL Humanity Initiative: Nour and Nagham, doctors and sisters on the ground in Gaza, have founded and led the globally supported initiative, PAL Humanity. Since the beginning of this genocide, they have been serving the community most notably through field visits and distributing aid (primarily diapers, menstrual/hygiene kits, and formula). They have prioritized perinatal needs as well as children with special needs, and also provide medication distribution en masse at UNWRA Schools were displaced families take refuge. After a successful fundraiser focused on our aid distribution, we are transitioning our service model from individual delivery focused to a distribution site within a full Medical Caravan model. While they will continue to perform field visits to displaced families who cannot reach them, the creation of a much needed medical caravan will allow Nour and Nagham to support families at a volume simply impossible at the moment. Services provided will include medical checkups, prescriptions, distribution of medicine, hospital referrals etc. As they both volunteer at their local hospital, they have access to elevating and expediting referrals. They post videos of their efforts daily @Pal.Humanity on Instagram and TikTok

Help Mohammed’s family find safety outside Gaza: This campaign is organized by Mohammed’s friend, Corey who lives in the UK. Corey and Mohammed have been friends for a long time, and Mohammed is always someone who is there when needed, and they’ve gone through many happy and sad times together. He has a bright future and the ambition to make the world a far better and peaceful place. Unfortunately, the current situation in Gaza is stopping him from being able to pursue that. Corey is committed to finding any way possible to get this family, the one of my best friend and a family he would consider himself a part of, to safety, and he can’t do this without your help. 100% of the funds collected will go to Mohammed and his family for the purposes of getting them to safety via contacts in Egypt.

Helping a family to get out of the West Bank: The situation in Palestine is dire, with conflict escalating by the day. Since the eruption of violence on Oct. 7th, countless lives have been lost, leaving behind devastated families and shattered communities. Amidst this chaos, a family of three—two young girls and their mother—are facing unimaginable challenges. Despite holding Canadian citizenship, they find themselves trapped in the heart of the conflict without the means to escape to safety. To add to their plight, the girls’ passports were stolen months ago, leaving them stranded and vulnerable. This GoFundMe campaign aims to provide the necessary funds for their escape and safe return to Canada. Your contributions will go towards securing new passports, covering expenses for checkpoints and transportation, ensuring access to food and shelter during their journey, and ultimately, facilitating their flights back home.

Rebuilding Dreams, A Digital Artist’s Tale: Hi, My name is Mahasen, A Digital Artist’s Tale from North of Gaza. In the land of North Gaza, where echoes of hardships linger in the air, a digital artist finds solace and strength in the face of adversity. Meet Me, a passionate soul whose canvas is the digital realm, weaving dreams with pixels and colors, creating a world that transcends the challenges of his surroundings. My trip took a heartbreaking curve when I was asked more than once to evacuate our house countless, even more so when destruction caused parts of our home. I work in self-employment Freelancer for more than 10 years, but because of this war I suffered what I didn’t. They stole my equipment, and from here I lost everything, even if the war ended, I can’t buy them. What hurts the most is the theft of my work appliances, each one holding memories and countless hours of creativity. So I’m determined to rebuild what’s ruptured. More than 10 years and I work and save money in order to build a beautiful work environment that is suitable, but I presented war vice versa. By making a contribution, you become a part of the narrative that seeks to restore not only a my tools but also the hope and inspiration that emanate from his creations.

Help to quit Gaza to life: Hello‏, I’m Mohammed Azzam. I live in Gaza, and I’m 18 years old. I finished my secondary school in 2023 and began studying at the College of Dentistry at Al-Azhar University in Gaza. My family and I had many dreams, but they were shattered due to tragic events. On October 10th, we were forced to leave our home suddenly, leaving behind everything we held dear. Each corner of our house held memories, both good and bad, happy and sad. Everything we cherished was destroyed, along with our dreams. We have been displaced five times, seeking safety within Gaza Strip, but finding none. We appeal for assistance to relocate to a secure place where we can rebuild our lives in peace and where I can continue my studies at the College of Dentistry. Your support would mean the world to us. My mother was diagnosed with a fragmentary form of poisoning, most likely due to toxic white phosphorus bombs and other harmful substances during the long period to which she was exposed. ‏There are absolutely no functional toxicology wards in Gaza at the moment as they have all been bombed or taken out of service due to military raids. Treatment in Gaza is no longer an option. ‏Her lungs are the most affected organs but they don’t stop there because they have already reached the bloodstream with frequent infections. ‏Her medical condition is getting worse by the week, day and hour. In addition, her history of strokes and diabetes makes the hope of recovery impossible if she is not treated by a specialist in the field of toxicology outside Gaza. ‏We are currently doing our best to collect information about where she could go if we managed to reach our goal and at least evacuate her.

Help Dima’s Family Evacuate from Gaza: This is a call to help our family escape Gaza amidst the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe. our family is struggling to survive in Gaza, so we are desperate to ensure our survival and are therefore asking for your kind donations. Since October 7th, our family has experienced three evacuations. Our neighbourhood in Gaza, Abu Mazen Square in the Northern district, has been destroyed. We evacuated to various relatives’ homes in both the North and South, but we we were forced to evacuate again from the Nuseirat refugee camp when the Israelis dropped leaflets telling us the area was going to become a combat area. We are terrified for our safety. We are currently separated between different relatives’ homes and are living in overcrowded houses hosting dozens of people who have found themselves in a similar situation; food and water are scarce, and we are afraid we may soon no longer be able to find enough for ourselves and our kids. Bombardments are still ongoing near us and several homes in our area have been targeted, killing or wounding everyone inside. Both me and my husband also suffer from different pre-existing health conditions and the medications we need are no longer available. The longer we don’t have access to these medications, the more difficult our situation becomes and we fear for our children in the case that our medical conditions deteriorate. We need to raise enough money to pay the fees being requested by the Egyptian administration of the Rafah border crossing in order for us to evacuate to safety. These fees are exorbitantly high, and considering the situation inside the Strip, we find them to be unjust. However, at the moment it is the strongest straw to grasp. We have no other option.

Help Ibrahim’s Family Find Safety ($50 is 500kr): Hello, I am Ibrahim, a 28-year-old father from the Gaza Strip. Our journey has been fraught with displacement and uncertainty. It began in northeast Gaza, from where we had to flee our home. Seeking safety, we moved from one place to another – first to another house, then to Al-Sheikh Redwan, followed by Al-Nasr Street. Each move, driven by the escalating violence, took us further across Gaza – to the east of Khan Yunis, then to its middle, and finally to the south. Now, we find ourselves in a nylon tent on agricultural land in Rafah, alongside my brother’s family and my two sisters with their children, totaling ten individuals. In this fragile shelter, the men sleep outside, braving the elements, while the children, frightened by the nearby shelling, often join them. This makeshift refuge, vulnerable as it is, provides us no respite from the ever-present threat of bombing, leaving us in a perpetual state of fear and uncertainty. No place feels safe in Gaza. Even as we seek shelter, the conflict seems to follow. The experience is particularly distressing for my wife, especially during her pregnancy and now with our newborn daughter. Every moment is shadowed by fear for our family’s future. We have learned that the cost of safety, the fee for entering Egypt what is known as the “Egyptian coordination”, is beyond our humble means. USD 7k per person older than 13 years old is a steep price for safety, yet it’s a price we must endeavor to meet to shield our children from relentless violence.

Urgent Evacuation, Journalist Ahmad Ghanim & Family: I am Journalist Ahmad Ghanim (TikTok, @ahmad.ghanim0). I would like to call upon your humanity to help me and my family evacuate a prison we have been in for all our lives but now this prison is on fire under constant bombardment of high tech bombs which are blowing our people, our elderly our children, our loved ones, our babies to pieces. This evacuation fundraiser is for my parents, my entire family, my mother, my brother, my sister, her family, and my nephews, whose father my brother was killed by the occupation during the 2014 war, in addition to my wife and children. Even if ceasefire occurs the humanitarian conditions are such that this area is no way safe for my family in any way.

Yes, it’s so great to see! While I love receiving books, I do recognize I’m in a position to buy or borrow my own books and many others are not.
