Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Each Tuesday a different topic is picked by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl and everyone creates a list that fits that topic (or a variation of that). This week’s topic is “Books Set in/Take Place During X,” and I decided to twist the topic a bit to books that are set somewhere other than the United States or England. In our Western focused society, we forget that there are other countries in the world, and that books can be set in those countries too.

Canada: A Land so Wide by Erin a. Craig
Nigeria (near-future): Noor by Nnedi Okorafor
South Korea: Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo
Spain: The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
Mexico: Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas

China: If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang
Afghanistan: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Shanghai (China): These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
Iran: Song of a Captive Bird by Jasmin Darznik
China (15th-Century): Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See

Noor was a good read.
Yes, it was! So well written and though provoking
I absolutely loved A Thousand Splendid Sons and These Violent Delights! Great choice of topic!

Same! I still need to read the sequel to These Violent Delights
Ah, nice choice of topic! I’ve been meaning to try something by Isabel Cañas for a while.
