With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her. But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh. The police won't do anything about it. And if they won't look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town's dark secrets along the way... and this time everyone is listening. But will she find him before it's too late?
Another re-read for the year. I re-read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder earlier this year for a book club, then my sister told me last week that she started reading it which made me want to finally finish the series.
Wow! I really love how Jackson continues to explore the whole grey area of crime and people. There’s so many layers with each person. There’s Charlie who I can definitely see his point of going after the person who was instrumental in the murder of his sister. But I also see that Stanley (while not the greatest person in the first book) is trying to do better. Although I don’t understand going after a child who didn’t really have a choice (yes, I’m saying this with the fact that I haven’t had a loved one be brutally murdered. But imagining my ten year old niece being either murdered or used to abduct kids is heartbreaking and enraging in both scenarios).
I really love that the mystery wasn’t a carbon copy of the first book. This time it’s a missing person’s case, not only that but the person missing is her best friend’s older brother. Plus, all the media exposure from the Sal and Andie cases have changed people’s perception of Pip.
I also find like that we still have Max Hastings case to deal with and his whole trial is going on in the first half or more of the book. Even though I’d already read it and remembered him going free, I knew the first time reading it that it was probably going to happen to. The percentage of rapists who go free is so high, so when Ravi and Pip had such high hopes beforehand my heart went out to them.
The way Jackson is able to weave through such a fascinating mystery together and have compelling characters is just amazing.
