TTT | Books About/Set In Places on My Bucket List

Posted April 7, 2026 by TheNonbinaryLibrarian in top ten tuesday / 15 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is book set in places on my bucket list. There’s so many places in the world I would love to visit, but my bank account is against me. Thankfully, books allow me to travel while sitting on my couch.

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah – South Africa

She Made Herself a Monster by Anna Kovatcheva – Bulgaria

The Possession of Alba Díaz by Isabel Cañas – Mexico

The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai – Egypt

Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home by Nora Krug – Germany

Blue Skinned Godsby SJ Sindu – India

Violets by Kyung-Sook Shin – South Korea

She is a Haunting by Trang Thanh Tran – Vietnam

The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma – Nigeria

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent – Iceland

What are some books set in places on your bucket list? Do we have any in common? Let me know in the comments!

I’m so glad to hear that! Iceland is really a place I want to move to not just visit 😂

I understand that. Everything I hear about Iceland makes me just want to pack up and move there!

  1. I enjoyed Born a Crime, Trevor Noah shares his story that is at times tragic, but in a humorous way. I have so many places I want to visit, but the money issue definitely comes into play.

I’m so happy to hear that! And yes, my wallet also prevents me from travelling to all the places I’d want to go to.

Right!?! I should really move that up my list. What’s even better is that it’s a duology and both books are out!

  2. The only place I’ve been to on your list is South Korea, but I got sick while I was there and was too sick to enjoy much of it, unfortunately. I’d love to go back one day and have a completely healthy visit! Trevor Noah’s book is so good, and the others look really interesting too. I hope you enjoy them all!

  3. I’ve got a couple of these places on my own bucket list (and I’ve been to a few as well, like Germany and Korea). My bank account is also very against me travelling at the moment unfortunately (cries in broke). Violets is on my TBR too!
